Camping Cots
We've been camping for a long as we can remember. As little kids, we loved the idea of being outdoors and sleeping in a tent. Sure we whined but it was great fun none the less. Of course as kids we didn't have to put up those old tents that seemed to take hours as we waited impatiently. And as kids we really didn't mind too much the idea of sleeping on the rock hard floor. As grandparents now however, we are so thankful for camping cots.

The idea of nothing but the bottom of a sleeping bag between my self and the ground is enough to make me want to stay home. Of course now we realize that camping cots would have made the experience even more enjoyable as kids. Now I'm not so old that they didn't have these cots when I was a kid, but they were huge and heavy. They were difficult to set up. And the comfort level probably wasn't much more than sleeping on the ground would be.
Fortunately, that's all changed. All camping equipment has gone up in both ease of use and functionality. No longer does it take hours to put up a tent. And they probably weigh 1/4 of what they did when we were kids. And if you haven't been on a camping cot lately you'll be shocked when you try one out. Who knew you could go camping and still sleep in luxury? Yes the new camping cots are that comfortable. Certainly we understand the idea of roughing it, but that doesn't mean you have to have a back ache and sore joints when you wake up.
So what kind of camping cot should you get? That depends on what you plan to do while camping. The hard core campers who avoid cars and hike everywhere will need one that is light. The last thing you want to do is have something on your back that weighs a ton.
Also consider how much you are willing to spend. There are so many to choose from and they'll range in price from about 20 dollars to over 200 dollars. Some of the more expensive camping cots are extremely durable and will weight less than 4 pounds. You can even get a two person cot that folds up like a newspaper and still weighs below 10 pounds.
Durability is something you should always keep in mind. If you are going to spend money you want it to last. You don't want it to rust or lose its shape. Keep in mind that these cots have a rough life. They are constantly exposed to the elements. And they are put up and taken down many times. Make sure your cot can withstand such use.
Get a good camping cot and getting a good night's sleep is no longer a luxury while tent camping. You'll enjoy the whole experience much more than you normally would expect.
