Preparation is the key for a happy camping
Planning and preparation are the key factors of a happy camping. There is no doubt that relaxing in wild nature is the primary idea behind camping. Spending a day away from routine surroundings will definitely unwind any one from day to day stress. But wild nature includes unexpected dangers also. So safety is the key to happiness in any camping.
The following precautions will help to have a happy camping trip.
1) Research your camping area: Know all the details about the area, different roads, and land marks and nearest country/habitation. It is better to choose a campground with a ranger or security personnel.
2) Find the nearest hospital with an emergency room, nearest police station or the help centre in case of emergencies. Note down their phone numbers.
3) Check the weather report of your camping place, on your camping day.
4) Prepare a check list. One can prepare it himself or get an automatic template from internet. But it is better to have thorough look at any template and have some personal additions. One need not be very experienced in preparing a camping check list. Just think of your routine activities form dawn to dusk include sleeping and the special activities you planned for camping. Note down different things needed to fulfill those activities. Generally camping lists vary depending on the season of camping and the additional activities involved. The common list of camp items includes sleeping bags, a tent, camping furniture, backpacks, toiletries, non-perishable food items, water, spare clothing, camp cookware, sun-block, utensils, lighter or matches and a camping lantern etc,.
5) Take first aid kit and emergency medicines.
6) Have a good number of communication devices like two way radios or cell phones. Feed the emergency numbers in them. Get their cells fully charged. Have spares. Train all the members to use them, to change cells etc.
7) Have surplus fuel for your vehicles, stoves and lighting equipment.
Plan your food supplies. Take a little more than needed. Get all the information of water supplies in your camping area. Take some water with you, but keep in mind that carrying excess water increases your weight of back packs.
9) Take insect repellents with you. Citronella candles or torches will help against insects.
10) Get familiar with your camping gear, practice using all he equipment. It is better to make sure that more than one person can do these things. It helps to save the time at cam site and at the same time guarantees the working condition of the equipment.
11) Categorize your items food, camping equipment, emergency items, communication items, and so on. It is better to distribute food and emergency items among all the campers. It comes to use in unexpected emergencies.
Check and double check your check list before you leave your home. Over packing is also dangerous. It can suck all the happiness. Packing the right stuff is an art. So check your list in this perspective. Leave those items which you feel unnecessary.
