Camping Equipment Checklist

You will have a more relaxed and enjoyable camping vacation if you are well organized. A sound camping equipment check will help you do just that. Whether you are going for a week end or a fortnight you also want to check where the campsites are at the location you want to go. It is a good idea to call ahead and make sure that there will be a space for you. This is especially important if the period includes a national holiday. Make sure that you have some knowledge of the area in which you’ll be staying before you decide to stay there. If you plan on taking the family dog check whether that’s allowed at the camping site. If it isn’t then you may need to find a kennel.

When camping, the following list includes basic equipment needed for all camping trips.

Creating A Camping Supply List

Bringing along the right camping supplies and gear is a vital part of any successful camping trip. The following camping checklist is a general guide for the average family camping weekend. Your camping supply list may differ, depending on the climate, location, and type of camping facilities you are visiting. If you are backpacking, kayak or canoe camping, or enjoying another type of camping where gear weight is crucial, check our lightweight backpacking tips.

Shelter and bedding are two of the most important items on your camping supply list. Primitive camping trips may require nothing more than a tarp to protect you from the ground’s moisture and a good sleeping bag, but your family camping checklist should include 1 or 2 adequately sized tents, tent stakes and extra stakes, and a hammer and stake puller. Ground covers, or tarps slightly larger than the bottom of your tent, are great for protecting your camping tent from moisture and dirt. You may also want to bring along a small broom to keep your tent clean and an outdoor mat for your entrance.

A Camp Cooking Checklist

One of the most fun things to do during a camping trip is camp cooking. Why? Because eating is one of the best things in life! Most people who are passionate about food and have flair for the sense of taste would agree with this. A grand feast of sumptuous camping meals would definitely make a camping vacation a great experience.

But because cooking entails quite an effort and some equipment to bring, avoid the scenario of forgetting an important ingredient or an essential cooking utensil by creating a menu of the dishes you intend to cook for the family and from here create a checklist of things to bring.

Quick Camping Checklist

Whether you're a first time camper, or an experienced wilderness explorer, it is helpful to have a basic checklist of essential gear. Of course, don't forget that you may need other equipment, based on the specifics of your trip.

Tent or shelter – Most people will want to take a tent, but you can also use a tarp or other open shelter to keep the rain and dew off of you. If it will be cold, though, you'll probably be thankful for the extra protection a tent offers. Don't forget to bring a fly or tarp to keep rain out of your tent.

Groundcloth – Bring a tarp or plastic keep moisture from seeping up through the tent floor, unless your tent has a built in groundcloth.

More About Creating A Camping Supply List

There is more to a good camping checklist than a tent, sleeping bags, and clothes. (Read the first part of Creating a Camping Supply List for more info on these items.) You will also want to include the right food, cooking and kitchen supplies, and a variety of other camping items on your checklist.

Camp cooking and preparing your favorite camping recipes is one of the best parts of a camping trip. Take care to include everything you need to prepare your meals, eat, and clean up. Many campgrounds provide charcoal grills at each campsite as well as picnic tables. If you are planning to use the facility grill, remember charcoal, and bring a table cloth, as well as table clips for breezy days.

Camping

Camping

A good number of people who live in the UK had their first experience of camping when they were cubs or brownies, and sometimes if they belonged to a local youth club. For some this was a great experience that they decided to continue later in life, while for others it put them off that sort of camping for years. If they tried it again now, they would probably find it was a great deal more enjoyable than those group camping exercises.

If you have never been camping at all or at least never been camping as an adult; then it might be worth your while giving it a try – even if only for a weekend. Tents and other camping gear is a lot more sophisticated than it used to be, and camping sites are far more user friendly with toilets and shower blocks.
