Camping Lovers Guide

Are yopu thinking of going camping?  If you do, you may have been told to examine the weather before you leave for your trip, as well as before you even start packing for your next camping trip. While this is a tip that is often told, some campers still forget to check the weather. This tragic mistake can ruin your trip and even put your life in jeapordy.

It is always a good idea to check first while planning your vacation.. You may save yourself from camping in a flashflood zone or flying into a blizzard. If you do have other options, this is something to at least take into consideration.

Making clothes? If you enjoy backpacking AND sewing, go for it. As for myself, I started buying gear again after the first hundred tedious hours of sewing . Then I discovered that there are some backpacking clothes you can make cheaply and quickly.

Making Hand Warmers

Stick your hands inside a pair of socks and mark where your fingertips and thumb-tip are, using a pen or marker. Then cut holes where the marks are. You now have hand warmers that leave your fingers free. Mine weigh about an ounce, but this depends on the socks that you use. You can use these under other gloves or mittens in colder weather, and when you remove your mittens to tie your shoes, you won't totally expose your hands.

For most children, summer camp is what you might call a more-and-less experience: They may have made a lot more friends while away, but they usually return home with a lot less of the clothes and other personal items than they originally packed. Blame it on the camp laundry or just childish carelessness, but that tends to be what sleepaway camp boils down to.

So, what's a parent to do? The obvious answer: Label everything.

Ah, but what parents have time to write their child's name on every piece of clothing, camping equipment, toiletries and sporting goods that kids tote off to camp each summer?

If you take inappropriate clothes with you when you go camping with your family then it can turn out to be a disaster. Camping during the off-season is enjoyable, but it can be dangerous if you’re not prepared to strike the winter trails. Protection from the elements is essential if you’re going out, and knowing how to dress can be a life saver. In other words, dress for winter camping so it’ll be a life time of memories for you in the future.

Clothing is the most valuable asset to ward off the cold. Make sure when you go out to dress in 3 layers of clothing during winter camping. The more layers you have on you’ll stay warmer than with just a bulky layer of clothes. Cold has a hard time getting through if you’ve got on insulated material against your skin. Next, dress with a warm fleece, and then insulate yourself again with water proof gear when winter camping.

We used to do a lot of camping when the kids were little and we all really enjoyed it. Camping vacations are more fun when you have the correct outdoor camping equipment. Camping doesn't mean you have to be uncomfortable.

One of the most important purchases is the tent. They range from one man tents to group tents which can sleep twelve people or more. Decide on the size and if a basic tent will do or if you need something to withstand bad weather conditions. Look at marquees, gazebos and awnings. Make sure the tent has a good groundsheet and adequate tent pegs and poles. You'll need a mallet to knock the pegs in. Some outdoor camping equipment stores sell tent food larders and storage pouches for clothes. The larders help to protect the food from wasps and bugs. You can get cool boxes, picnic hampers and camp fridges too.
