Heading Out to the Mountains – You Will Need A Tent

Tents are typically thought of as transient shelter for recreational uses, but many of us around the planet still live in what seem to be tents all the time, forever. All around the year, whether winter or summer, these special structures house whole families against the elements. In the steppes of Mongolia and Central Asia, nomadic peoples still use felt-covered wood lattice yurts for houses. They are like tents that can be pitched anytime, anywhere, and yet are much more spacious and strong, such that they can stand permanently if necessary, as indeed many do these days when some steppe peoples no longer follow large herds around and are essentially settled down in one place.

Plan Ahead For A Fun Filled Family Camping Experience

Camping means different things to different people. For some, it is going out with a camper and practically all of the comforts of home. For others, it is backpacking into the mountains and sleeping in the open elements with nothing over your head but the stars. It could even mean foraging for your food (hopefully you'll come across a good trout stream!). My definition of camping falls on the more comfortable side of the two, loving the camping experience, but needing to have some basic comforts also. This article will give you a few tips that you can use no matter what kind of camping you enjoy!

Starting With A Plan

A great camping trip starts with a great plan! Planning out your camping trip will help you be prepared and build excitement way before time to head to the hills (or the beach!). Make sure that you include the whole family and let everyone have a part in deciding what you'll need to bring to make this a great adventure and a pleasurable experience. Camping with your family is a great way to build a closer relationship between parents and kids. Good quality time spent without the distraction of the TV, computer and video games can make for some great memories and shared experiences that will be remembered for years to come. You'll experience quality time for everyone involved.

Staying Clean While Camping

Staying Clean in the Wild

Going camping and cleanliness seems to be almost opposite goals. After all, the very act of camping means going out into nature, living with the animals, subjecting yourself to the elements and cooking, eating and sleeping on the ground. Nonetheless, cleanliness throughout your campout experience is crucial both to the day in, day out life in camp and to your health and mental serenity throughout the time you are “roughing it”.

The actual challenge of camping is finding ways to have a good quality of life without many of he niceties that our modern lifestyle affords us. For the most part, few of us go camping because we have to. We camp for recreation and probably for relatively short periods of time. Nevertheless good hygiene and camp cleanliness is essential for everyone’s well being and to assure that you stay organized and go bed each night knowing you camped well.

Winter Camping Safety

Camping during the off-season is enjoyable, but it can be dangerous if you’re not prepared to strike the winter trails. Protection from the elements is essential if you’re going out, and knowing how to dress can be a life saver. In other words, dress for winter camping so it’ll be a life time of memories for you in the future.

Clothing is the most valuable asset to ward off the cold. Make sure when you go out to dress in 3 layers of clothing during winter camping. The more layers you have on you’ll stay warmer than with just a bulky layer of clothes. Cold has a hard time getting through if you’ve got on insulated material against your skin. Next, dress with a warm fleece, and then insulate yourself again with water proof gear when winter camping.

Hammock Tent

The recreational pastime of camping has always been a popular way for individuals and families to enjoy the outdoors and be in touch with nature. Camping also provides an incredible opportunity for families to leave behind the diversions of life. Often these diversions prevent families from interacting and, subsequently, prevent families from knowing each other.

One of the critical camping items, when families and individuals decide to go camping, is some type of shelter. These shelters can be recreational vehicles, trailers, tents or hammock tents.

How To Choose A Camping Tent

How to choose a camping tent is just like assuring your home has the best roof. Actually, the tent is your shelter, your dome of protection against all the elements, your home away from home. Your family might want to spend the summer getting the feel of nature. Of course, you want to feel the cool air, the soothing sounds of the babbling brook. Ahh, but when you encounter the chill of the night because of dim knowledge on how to choose a tent, your summer vacation might not turn out the best. Most people shun away from the basic questions that are necessary to ask for them to know how to choose a camping tent. Here are some tips you should know to help you on the outdoor experience of a lifetime. Believe me, you will give yourself a pat on the back later just because you chose these extra minutes to learn a little bit more.

There are things to consider before you decide how to choose a tent. You have to consider the purpose of the tent, what season you’re going out on an outdoor experience, how many will be going on your trip, etc. Of course, when you want to spend time camping with the whole family, you should bear in mind the comfort, space and ventilation of the tent. Also think about the amount of gear (coolers, clothes, flashlights, backpacks etc.) you will keep in the tent. If you are going camping backcountry, then weight, size and durability of the tent should be considered as well.

Consider how long you will be setting camp. Are you just going for a day or two, or will you be camping a day or two every month? If you are planning to set camp for several days, buying a heavy tent is worth the expense and additional weight. If your camping adventure involves you getting exposed to the natural elements: storm, hail, snow, sleet, etc., four season tents are available for your convenience. On hot nights, poor ventilation in your tent will cause sleeping turmoil, so be sure to consider ventilation as well.

4 Season Tents – Are They Necessary?

There is no need to get 4 season tents for gentle summer camping. Even if there is a heavy downpour, the use of sleeping pads combined with adequate planning should keep everything fairly dry. The important thing is to not camp at the bottom of a hill, to make sure the rain fly is secure, and to take advantage of natural cover.

But, a four season tent can be a nice thing to have for extreme conditions, and if you have the money to spend on one, it is a luxury that can really improve your camping experience.

Basically, the difference between 4 season tents and regular tents is that a 4 season tent is tighter, with heavier outer walls. When it is all zipped up, there is no space anywhere for the elements to get in.

The Basics on Camping Tents

When it comes to selecting a tent for your camping needs, there are a few things to consider. With the wide variety of makes and models available, your decision can seem overwhelming. However, you can simplify the process by knowing what you need before you start to shop.

One of the first things to consider when buying a camping tent is size. Think about how many people will be in the tent and the amount of supplies you will keep in the tent. You want to make sure you have enough room to be comfortable. If you're planning an extended trip where you'll need a lot of supplies, you might want to purchase another tent just for storage.
