Picking A Great Family Camping Tent

Have you ever noticed that we are more likely to do things as adults that we were exposed to as children? This seems to hold true for a number of activities. Even if we do try new things as adults we may not be as comfortable doing them as we are doing the things that we grew up doing. For example my husband grew up in a family that hunted, fished and spent a great deal of time in the woods and on the lake. Being outdoors to him is second nature.

I grew up out in the country on a farm. We did not do a great deal of hunting but my dad did take us fishing a few times a year. Being outside was something we had to do in order to get the work done on the farm. My mother had a huge garden that we helped tend and we helped with the crops and cattle. Occasionally we would pitch a tent in the backyard, but we never did any formal camping. When we got married my husband and I began taking many camping trips. I had done some camping in college and found that I really enjoyed it. One we had our children we decided we wanted to introduce them to camping also. We went looking for a family camping tent. The one that we had just would not be comfortable for more than two people. When we camped as a couple we had noticed different family camping tents in the campsites.

We found a great family camping tent at one of the major sporting goods stores in our area. The tent actually had rooms that you could add on to it. When you entered the tent there was an opened space that was large enough to accommodate a folding camp style picnic table. We already had this. It folds into a suit case. It is perfect if it is raining you can set it up inside the tent. This space could also hold gear that you did not want outdoors over night. There were then two separate areas that had a tent wall in-between and a fold down flap to provide privacy for getting dressed. So the family camping tent was accurately a three room tent. There was the capability of zipping up a third wall within the front space to create a fourth room. We liked that the inside rooms had drop down walls that could be tied back or left closed rather than being zipped. Opening and closing that many zippers would have been annoying for anyone trying to sleep and also zippers with kids have a tendency to get caught or break. We are glad that we are raising our kids to enjoy the outdoors.

The Right Tent Makes Camping Better

Whether you have the average 2.5 kids, or a tribe as big as the Brady Bunch, there is a tent that will meet your families’ needs. In fact, these days there are so many tents on the market that you can go from the simple one-person variety to the much larger Taj Mahal’s that quite literally accommodate double-figure families.

If you are looking to buy a family tent, there are a number of things you should consider. Firstly, you will need to decide on the capacity of your tent. For instance, even though there may only be four members in your family, your kids might want to invite friends on holidays. Grandma and Grandpa might also want to join you. Making sure you have enough room allows you to handle any eventualities and any extras that might tag along!

Family Tent Camping

Camping in a tent is a fun and memorable experience for families. Camping vacations are great for relaxing and spending quality time with those you love. To ensure an enjoyable and comfortable outing, consider these tent camping tips.

Always use a rainfly that provides full coverage of your tent. A rainfly is a tarp that covers the top of your tent to improve water resistance. Many tent models include a rainfly designed to cover the windows and doors, allowing them to be opened for ventilation without letting water in during rain.

One thing I always enjoyed as a child was camping with the family. While we eventually upgraded to an actual fold-out camper, I can still remember the fun times with family camping tents. You know, the huge ones that sleep like eight people. I always loved those things as a kid. You could sneak in there before everyone else did, and pretend it was your own little home. That was great fun. Things seem so huge when you're a small child. Now days I watch my daughter have a blast with family camping tents when we head out for a weekend with Mother Nature. She loves to pretend it's her castle and no one can enter. There's just something to be said about the old-school family camping tents. Actually, I shouldn't say old anymore. Technology has certainly upgraded these awesome camping amenities. Family camping tents are constructed rather strong now days, with the ability to withstand a variety of weather conditions. What tent are you camping out in?

Family Camping Tent

I remember the first time that I got to help my dad to pick out a family camping tent when I was a kid. It was the first time I got to go to the camping equipment store with my father. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. You see, at the time I was immersed in a typical fantasy that little boys have. I loved thinking about the old West, cowboys and Indians, and the adventures that one could have in the great outdoors. A family camping tent was just the thing that we needed to start to live these adventures. Although I would have rather gone on vacation by myself, the family camping tent still provided a great possibility for travel and adventure.

The tent we got was a Eureka tent. Neither my dad nor my mom had much experience camping, so we didn't really know much about buying a tent. We figured that we would get a camping family camping that was rated for four people – the number of people in our family. We didn't realize how family camping tents were actually rated. A 4-person tent, you see, barely has room for four people sandwiched together tightly. You can't take any of your gear in the tent, and you have no room to turn over, roll around, or move. Needless to say, this does not make for a very good outdoor camping experience.

Many adults will say one of the most memorable parts of their childhood was the family’s camping trips. Camping is near and dear to a lot of peoples’ hearts whether the sleep out took place in the backyard or involved a more in depth planning and execution process. It makes sense that as those children grew up and had families of their own that they would want to continue the family tradition and take their children on camping trips as well. Backpacking Tent Fundamental Tips

The qualities suitable in a backpacking tent are different from those tents being pitched next to a car in a camping area. The greatest difference being that the backpacking tent will be deported with you and consequently, should be little and lightweight. Most modern two person tents weight about four to five lbs. whereas a spacious family camping tent can weigh twenty lbs or more. Solo or individual person tents can weigh less than three lbs and are great whenever you are hiking alone. Nevertheless, if you are hiking with someone else, it generally works out better weight wise to split the gear and take a two person tent.
