You may find it hard to believe but there are some really good lightweight backpacks that weigh less than four ounces. That's no exaggeration. Most bags like this will have a capacity of around 1500 to 1800 cubic inches which will enable you to carry about 15 pounds of equipment. This should be enough for your lightweight sleeping bag, a tarpaulin for some shelter, a basic first aid kit and some energy food. And some water of course.

How To Avoid Forgetting Stuff On Your Next Camping Trip

When going on a camping trip, it is essential that you have enough supplies to last the duration of your trip. If you want your camping trip to run smoothly, like clockwork, then it is almost essential that you learn how to make a camping checklist. A checklist will allow you to be prepared for your trip and minimize the chance of forgetting important items. Unfortunately it's often very hard to buy the items you have forgotten when you arrive at your camping destination. Or you can buy them but you wind up paying a very high price for the items).

1. Make The Master List

The most basic way to create a checklist is simply to get out a piece of paper and start listing the items you'll need to take on your trip. For this we recommend a lined piece of paper. It's important to take the checklist with you on your next trip and add to it. It may take a couple trip to get the checklist just right. But once it's right you are set for future trips.

Fall Camping: What To Know

We all love a family camping trip in the summer. We make plans to hit our favorite camping destination where you can fish, swim and sit around a campfire in the evenings. Summer is the premiere time for a camping vacation. Or so many people think.

More and more couples are taking camping trips in the fall months to take advantage of lower campsite costs, smaller crowds and cooler weather. Many campsites reduce their fees after Labor Day, making fall camping less expensive than summer camping, an especially nice savings during the current economic times. Because school has started, there are fewer kids and teenagers camping in the fall, making the campgrounds a little quieter for young and old couples to have a relaxing, and maybe romantic trip. The nights are often chillier as well, offering the perfect opportunity to snuggle up under a warm blanket with a friend or loved one. Plus, the scenery during the fall can’t be beat. The greens of summer turn into vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows.

Outdoor Medical Emergencies Require Camping First Aid Kits

As an Eagle Scout, former Junior Assistant Scoutmaster and camp staff employee, some of my fondest memories were the outdoor adventures we had as a young man. But I also learned that ANYTHING can happen in the outdoors. The Scout motto (Be Prepared) is very good advice. And I'm here to tell you: if you go outdoors, you need to take along a good camping first aid kit.

Most people think that when they go camping or hiking they can just grab the first aid kit or box of band-aids from the hall cupboard and that will suffice. Wrong! What if you are out-of-doors and someone falls and breaks their leg? What if you are bitten by a poisonous snake? What if someone gets a bad chill or frostbite? Your little home first aid kit will not have what you need during these medical emergencies. No, you need a CAMPING or OUTDOOR first aid kit.

Tips For Hiking Solo

Tips For Hiking Solo

Getting out into the wilderness for a couple of days of hiking and camping can be invigorating, and provide some time for some down time. Having a light weight 2 person tent can be very advantageous. Going solo, or with a friend, hiking into the woods with a backpack, tent, sleeping bag, and a few basics can create lots of tremendous memories. There are some very basic rules that you need to observe for both your own safety and that of the environment.

1. Choose The Correct Equipment

What equipment you take with you will determine the success of your camping trip. A 2 man tent is a great way to go backpacking light. Often if you have another person, a two man tent isn't big enough for both of you and your gear. This is especially true if your hiking companion is very tall or rather large. If you are going to be solo hiking a two person tent is perfect for holding you and your gear.
