A Truck Camper – The Ultimate In Freedom

Each year millions of campers leave the confines of their homes and neighborhoods and set off on a quest for the fresh air and open spaces of the great outdoors. But campers are no different than other vacationers, and the degree to which they escape the comforts of home can vary greatly. Some campers like to travel in their RV (recreational vehicle) in which they can enjoy all the comforts of home and then some! Some RVs have more amenities than many homes or hotels!

In contrast to the RV camper, some people truly like to rough it and live off the land as their ancestors did. For them a tent and fire provide their basic necessities, and the fun lies in getting away from modern creature comforts. However, not all campers are interested in staying in one place. Sportsman - like hunters or fisherman - or those who simply like to explore, need something different that will provide them with shelter, comfort, and mobility, and nothing fills that role like a truck camper.

Ideas For Winter Camping

For those interested in an exciting outdoor adventure in the cooler weather, winter camping may be the choice for you. Winter camping brings an entirely new element to the activity of camping. Not only do you see the great outdoors in a totally different light, it also offers different challenges from summer camping.

Winter Camping Supplies

It is important to have the correct supplies for winter camping, as this is can, at times, have a level of danger not present at other times of the year. Things to bear in mind include rapid changes in the weather the weather may be fine and sunny, although cool, when you leave to hike to your destination and within minutes a winter storm can blow up. Dress appropriately in layers for winter camping. Avoid wearing cotton. Cotton does not dry quickly and retains the water against your skin causing you to become even colder with the added risk of hypothermia developing.

Camping Essentials 101

If you’re planning to head out camping in the great outdoors – but you’re not exactly a seasoned camper – you may want to take a few moments and think about the kinds of things you’ll need while spending time outside. If possible, grab a seasoned camper and take him or her along with you – they’ll be able to tell you what to do in just about any situation – but if that isn’t an option, think about what you’ll need to start with: shelter, warmth, and food.

Most beginning campers start out as tent campers, simply because it’s the easier thing to learn and the best way to ease oneself into the thrill of camping without too many variables. Also, this is a good way to see the “great outdoors” without giving in to your desire for the comforts of home – stay away from that RV and pack up the car instead! When you’re purchasing a tent, make sure it has adequate weather protection and durable mosquito netting – and do the same with sleeping bags, ensuring that they’re well insulated for ultimate warmth.

One thing I always enjoyed as a child was camping with the family. While we eventually upgraded to an actual fold-out camper, I can still remember the fun times with family camping tents. You know, the huge ones that sleep like eight people. I always loved those things as a kid. You could sneak in there before everyone else did, and pretend it was your own little home. That was great fun. Things seem so huge when you're a small child. Now days I watch my daughter have a blast with family camping tents when we head out for a weekend with Mother Nature. She loves to pretend it's her castle and no one can enter. There's just something to be said about the old-school family camping tents. Actually, I shouldn't say old anymore. Technology has certainly upgraded these awesome camping amenities. Family camping tents are constructed rather strong now days, with the ability to withstand a variety of weather conditions. What tent are you camping out in?

Camping out in the woods can be one of the most gratifying experiences available for those who stress over the hustle and bustle of daily life in or near a city. The dangers of contemporary lifestyles and environments can themselves drive people to the slow pace of the woods. Crime, careless drivers, pollution, identify theft. Who needs it!

More Camping Safety Tips: Campfires And Wildlife

Respecting nature should be a top priority anytime you relax or play in the great outdoors. Camping safety and protecting yourself from common outdoor hazards should be just as important. Each year, thousands of accidents occur in the outdoors as a result of camper and backpacker carelessness. Protect yourself with these camping safety tips.

Campfire Safety

Campfire negligence is a leading cause of forest fires and also causes many camping injuries and deaths. Only build your campfires in designated areas. Most campgrounds provide fire rings or pits for campfires or you can use a Coleman fireplace to safely contain your campfire. Keep the area surrounding your campfire free of trash and other debris that could ignite and set your tent, chairs, and other gear a safe distance from the flame.

Finding Camping Trailers For Sale

There is nothing more exciting than taking off for a weekend in the woods. Staying in hotels can be fun but nothing beats the great outdoors. Since we take a few trips each year we decided to look at camping trailers for sale in our area. I have to admit that I was pretty impressed with what we found.

You can find camping trailers for sale in a number of different places. Looking to the local newspaper can yield some good results but you have to have excellent timing to find the camper that you want at a price that you like. Not only do the camping trailers for sale in the newspapers have to be listed when you are looking, you also have to respond to the advertisement before others buy them out from under you.
