The Compact Design Of Today’s Hiking Tents

There are several products engineered to make out of doors journeys more delightful. Among these new items campers and hikers will find a selection of hiking tents. These things are built to be light so they can be folded and placed inside a backpack. These compact units come in a variety of sizes large enough to hold between one and 4 folk. One basic style is the Alps Mountaineering model designed for one person. This product measures a compact 6 by 16 inches when folded. When opened to its maximum size it measures a roomy three and a half feet by 7 feet 10 inches.

Mountaineering tents are also available in sizes to accommodate four folk. The Alps Extraordinary model designed to sleep four folks measures eight inches by twenty-four inches when folded and six feet by 8 feet when set up. This model is a free standing unit using three poles to stabilize the unit. T

he product contains the tent, poles, stakes, rope, repair patches and individual bags for the tent, poles and stakes. This item also has internal storage pockets people can use to hold camping gear they want to have handy. The tents in this line are made with a nylon material for the floor and walls, which is formed to be water resistant as well as sturdy. You also want to go looking for models with a foyer, which is useful for storing gear and gives a space where you can cook. Remember not to use your backpacking stove within the tent as carbon monoxide can be perilous.

The larger models of portable tents can be found in 1 or 2 different styles. The dome shape is the most well liked, but there are styles which have a lengthened front e. G the Chinook Windstorm. The extra roof and flaps make a usable porch area where people can set up a table and chairs for dining purposes.

Almost all of the new lightweight models which can often be stored within a backpack are created as three season tents. This means campers can use them for spring, summer or fall camping journeys.

Selecting The Camping Water Filter

Camping Water Filter

One of the most important camping supplies you can remember to pack is your water filter. It doesn't matter if you are going to be roughing it in the wilds or staying in a five star resort, you will need clean water to drink. You certainly don't want to lug around a bunch of water bottles or jugs. Luckily, you don't have to.

Katadyn has been making water filters for over fifty years. They tend to be a leader in the field and supply safe h2o with regard to army personnel, missionaries, explorers, catastrophe alleviation organizations, and every day time hikers as well as campers. Their filters are cost effective, easy to use, and have a long life span.

An example of a good camping filter is the Katadyn Camp Bag. This filter works off of gravity, so no electricity or pump is needed. It is actually lightweight and comes upward when not being used which makes it portable and ideal to defend myself against backpacking trips. It is capable of filtering 5 liters of water per hour. You simply fill the bag with water and hang it from a tree. Gravity forces the water through the filter and into a tube which can be used to fill individual water bottles. This filter removes particles larger than 0.2 microns along with protozoa, cysts, bacteria, algae, sediments, viruses, and spores.

The Many Benefits Of A Backpacking Tent

We might have brought a backpacking tent along. Instead, being young guys we relished in challenging ourselves and flirting with danger. We cavalierly enjoyed our mountaintop landscape even as the sun was about to dip, and by the time we had turned home we could scarcely go another thousand yards before we noticed that we could not see very well.

Real hikers would have just easily pitched or otherwise put together a backpacking tent but of course we didn't have one because we are novices and by no means imagined we'd need to have one. This was meant to have been a casual day-hike, after all. And yet, here we were at the end of the day and barely started out on our descent. What we did not count on was how incredibly fast darkness could grow in a forest.

External Frame vs. Internal Frame Backpacks

Long and frequent has been the debate amongst hikers and campers regarding the use of internal or external frame backpacks. Many old timers insist that external frame packs are the way to go, mainly due to years of utilizing externals, and reluctance (like all of us), to change. The younger generation tends to gravitate toward the trendy internal frame packs. It seems that the new wave of hikers are as much concerned with form as they are with function.

In my experience, having owned and used both types of backpacks, I have compiled some recommendations based on experiences on (and off) the trail.

Slide In Campers Offer Travel Without Limits

Among other things, freedom is the ability to go where you want to go, whenever you want to go there. While it is impossible to be truly free - there are places that are simply off limits - the freedom enjoyed by campers is often limited by their equipment and their transportation. If you own a massive RV you might have the luxury of all the creature comforts of home, but it comes at the expense of your freedom.

An RV is limited to the roads it can use, the places it can park, and even the campgrounds it can use. And when it comes to exploring uncharted territory, driving an RV is more than impractical, it is essentially impossible.

Backpack Size

related article: Travel Bag Sizes

You should think of the season and duration of your trip when searching for the right backpack dimension. Because of their importance, these two factors will decide your ideal backpack dimensions.
Backpack for Hiking in The Summer

For a day hike, the capacity should be 1,500-2,000 cubic inches (equal to 25-35 liters). If you’ll be camping out for two nights, the backpack size / capacity should be 2,500 or 3,000 cubic inches or 40 to 50 liters.
