Winter Camping Safety

Camping during the off-season is enjoyable, but it can be dangerous if you’re not prepared to strike the winter trails. Protection from the elements is essential if you’re going out, and knowing how to dress can be a life saver. In other words, dress for winter camping so it’ll be a life time of memories for you in the future.

Clothing is the most valuable asset to ward off the cold. Make sure when you go out to dress in 3 layers of clothing during winter camping. The more layers you have on you’ll stay warmer than with just a bulky layer of clothes. Cold has a hard time getting through if you’ve got on insulated material against your skin. Next, dress with a warm fleece, and then insulate yourself again with water proof gear when winter camping.

Heading out to the woods for a camping excursion is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend a weekend or even a week with your family or friends. Camping has gain in popularity with the spread and easy availability of some amazing campsites around the country. You can commune with nature while enjoying great quality time talking, fishing, swimming, and just being around the scampering wildlife you will come across on a camping trip.

However, if you are unprepared for your camping trip, you may find yourself instead wishing you were home. Since it is important to enjoy yourself and build positive memories while camping, you need to assemble a handy checklist prior to the start of packing your equipment and supplies for your camping trip. Favorite Camping Memory

I was recently going through the garage getting the camping gear together for an upcoming trip and was just flooded with memories from my childhood. Some noise brought me back to reality and I realized with a chuckle a tear had formed in my eye. That is how strong the memories of camping are for me.

This one memory of camping was so fun I thought I would share it with you.

I was just a young boy, maybe 8 or 10 years old. My family often went camping. My dad loved to hunt and fish. One of my favorite destinations was the beach. The surf, the waves, the breeze, it was a whole different world. There was so much to explore and feel and touch. Camping at the beach will always be my favorite memories.

Going solo, or with a friend, hiking into the woods with a backpack, tent, sleeping bag, and a few basics can create lots of tremendous memories. There are some very basic rules that you need to observe for both your own safety and that of the environment.

1. Choose The Correct Equipment

What equipment you take with you will determine the success of your camping trip. A 2 man tent is a great way to go backpacking light. Often if you have another person, a two man tent isn't big enough for both of you and your gear. This is especially true if your hiking companion is very tall or rather large. If you are going to be solo hiking a two person tent is perfect for holding you and your gear.
