We've found a desert plant that produces a new hiking stick every year! Meet the Daisylirion Leiophyllum. Natives call it the 'Desert Candle'. From our desert Southwest, it looks like Yucca plant - but produces a bloom stalk every Spring that is 9 - 12 feet tall! These are light weight, but strong enough to be a great light-use hiking staff. Each one has a slight bow courtesy of mother nature. We have a narrow window to harvest these, and only have a select quantity each year.

We all enjoy camping out under the stars and pale moon. Am I right or am I right? There's not a human being alive that doesn't adore a good bout with Mother Nature. Just lounging by the campfire, singing a tune and soaking up the peace and quiet. Alright, I admit that there may be a few folks that don't enjoy the outdoors. As for the rest of us, we need that relaxing break from the real world chaos and stress. And with the right outdoor camping equipment, a trip up into the wilderness can be an utter blast. Everyone get your tents, sleeping bags, and flashlights ready; we're headed outdoors.

Less than a month ago I was camping in a nearby woods with my daughter. She was the only one of my family members I could get to go with me. Fortunately she loved the experience. We're lucky to have a friend that owns a large portion of land, because he lets us camp on it whenever we please. Now, you may be wondering why we ventured out into the bush during the winter season.

It's a shame to come to the realization that many of us will go their whole lives without ever really getting to experience and appreciate the beauty and majesty of the great outdoors. Mother Nature is all around, a short drive for anyone to appreciate and yet so little do in comparison to those that don't. My hope through this article is the change of priority to encourage those who normally wouldn't to find something worth trying outside.

I could simply say, 'you should get out there and do something amid nature', but that wouldn't really give you any indication of what these types of activities could be if you weren't already an outdoorsy kind.

I can't wait to hit the trails and climb the mountains! I mean I like to go all out and scale those fierce rock walls with just some chalk on my hands and no safety cables whatsoever. Okay, you caught me; I'm lying. Hey, this isn't Cliffhanger you know. Anyway, I really do like to hit that wilderness scene for a fun weekend of camping, hiking and lounging by the fire ring. There's just something relaxing about crickets chirping at night and the bright moon washing over my face. Not a car in sight for miles; no chaos of crowds and pitter-patter of marching feet. Yes sir, that visit with Mother Nature is often much needed. So, have you taken any good camping adventures lately? The joy of camping should be shared with kids at an early age.  It will help them develop and be much more active.  Camping should be taken seriously though.  Every year there are thousands of people who end up in trouble while camping.People usually get in trouble camping because they are not prepared for what Mother Nature can throw at them.  Often, people will get lost because they do not familiarize themselves with their surroundings.  Camp maps should always be drawn as soon as you make camp.  Copies of this camp map should be given to every member of your party.
