In the good old days, people are not very fussy with the supplies they bring during camping. If they have a blanket, a canteen, a knife and clothes on their backs, they're ready for some adventure. However, this is not the in thing anymore. More people would want to camp in style. Of course, camping is not camping without some level of roughness and adventure, but right now, camping does not need to be too troublesome.

One of the fondest childhood memories I have are camping with my dad. My dad and I would grab our tent, sleeping bags and fishing poles and head down to a local lake for a weekend. Camping can be a wonderful activity for the entire family. It can also become a huge calamity if you are not prepared or don’t know what to expect.

If you are not experienced at camping then it might be best to start with a commercial campground. These campgrounds are often listed in the yellow pages. The costs of these campgrounds is often nominal and they usually have showers, bathrooms, electrical hookups, running water nearby, fire pits and a camp store for any necessities that you may have forgotten. Established commercial campgrounds also often have activities for the entire family including swimming pools, hiking trails, paddle boats and fishing lakes. Although most of these campgrounds are set up for campers they almost at always have tent sites as well.

Here comes summer, and we all are aware what that means! Camping and great outdoor fun season. Al right! It’s not quite summer as yet, but its close enough. So long as the temperature is good and the sun is shining outside, you're pretty much good to go! Are your camping supplies ready yet? As for me, I am one of those people who always have the necessities at hand. Right from large tents to sleeping bags, to campfire cooking utensils, it's all ready to go. I just like to be prepared.

My camping list seems to last forever! Who doesn't love to go camping? Lying under the stars listening to the sound of nature all around you, building a fire out of nothing but sticks to keep you warm. Getting in touch with nature is the best satisfaction of going camping, but the camping list of things to pack seems endless.

Some people are avid campers so they seem to know all the tricks of the trade on how to pack the least possible. There are few factors involved when packing for camping... How long are you going to be gone and what necessities do you have to have?
Length of stay is a major factor when going camping. After you decide how long you will be away from home you can then decide how many meals you are planning on cooking and how elaborate you plan on making them. Most families that go camping just have sandwiches that make everything seem easy. A cooler, ice, sandwich meat, condiments such as mustard or mayonnaise, paper plates and drinks is about all you need for this feat.

There are several sites on the web, that describe programs that provide backpacks full of school supplies to needy children, and backpacks full of toiletries and other necessities for wounded military personnel and for victims of disasters.

A sixteen year old girl, with the help of her Mom and some friends, bought 200 backpacks and filled them with toiletries and other necessities for the victims of Huuricane Katrina. They did this with their own funds except for a wonderful donor who provided the money for shipping the backpacks to the affected area.

There are several church groups all over the country, that have programs which provide backpacks stuffed with all sorts of school supplies, such as notebooks, pens, pencils, paper, crayons, markers, glue and whatever other school supplies they can think of to include. Some scout and youth groups are picking up on and joining this effort.
