The Many Uses For Tents

Tents are shelters constructed from sheets of fabric or animal hide, draped over a frame of poles and traditionally secured to the ground by ropes and stakes. Many latter-day variations such as camping tent or backpacking tent are used for recreational activities such as camping are free-standing tents are designed in such a way as to want no such anchoring to the ground.

Tent sizes alter from bivouac types giant enough for 1 or 2 folks to the familiar multiple topped circus tents with space enough for thousands. The vast majority of tents made and sold today fall in-between these 2 extremes ( more towards the previous than the latter ). The bigger types can take about a half hour to correctly pitch or assemble, while others may need only seconds to successfully strike or disassemble. Some can be set up by oneself, while others will totally need help.

Have you ever had a backpacking trip that was a disaster - even though you brought everything you needed? Maybe you had matches, but couldn't get that fire going. 1. Learn firemaking. Practice in your yard if you have to, but try to start that fire with one match. Try it the next time it's raining too.

2. Learn to pitch a tent. Do it wrong and the rain will come in, or the the wind will tear the seams. Tents should be pitched tight, and you should be able to set your tent up in a few minutes.
