A sleeping bag is a crucial part of equipment for any overnight camping or trekking activity and explorers have used the sleeping bag since the first, the ‘Euklisia Rug’ was designed in the 19^th century by Pryce Pryce Jones. many things to take into consideration before choosing a sleeping bag; namely the style, type of insulation, temperature or season rating and weight.

Sleeping bags come in two standard styles, tapered at one end into a mummy shape and the more conventional envelope shape. The mummy sleeping bag has a tighter fitment and uses less material as the sleeping bag is tighter around the feet and head areas. The mummy shaped sleeping bag is also a lighter sleeping bag with a smaller overall size as there is reduced spare material. These features of the sleeping bag make it perfect for sports where weight and size must be kept small whilst retaining maximum warmth inside the sleeping bags.

When you go camping you want to ensure that you get a good night's sleep as there is nothing worse than being cold and uncomfortable. Getting a rectangular down sleeping bag could be a bit of a difficulty to some simply because they truly do not know what to consider in a sleeping bag. Some key qualities that you're going to want to have whenever you searching for the bag for yourself would be temperature rating, overall size and weights, type of insulation, material, and also the size it compresses to. These are the biggest parts of every sleeping bag. You wouldn’t want to take a sleeping bag that is only good for a temperature of 40 degrees camping in weather colder than 10 degrees. It will probably be a really distressing camping trip and will most likely give you frost bite.

The size and weight is another major part of each and every sleeping bag simply because you do not want to have a sleeping bag for a person 5’8” when you are 6’2”, it just wouldn’t work out great. Try to get a sleeping bag that is a couple inches taller for you, then you'll have enough room for comfort.

Why ultralight sleeping bags? Because ultralight backpacking is only made possible by cutting the weight of the big three; the backpack, shelter and sleeping bag. The days of five-pound summer bags are gone - at least for those of us who prefer to go light.

One Pound Ultralight Sleeping Bags

There are several one-pound ultralight sleeping bags on the market now. My own is 17 ounces. It actually weighs 19 ounces with the stuff sack, but stuff sacks aren't always necessary. It can be stuffed directly into my pack or put in a half-ounce bread bag. It's a down sleeping bag, and has kept me warm down to below freezing - warmer, in fact, than my four-pound bag used to keep me.

It appears fragile, and I've babied it over the years, but it may be tougher than I thought. I've used it from sea-level to 16,000 feet, in all types of weather, usually camping under a tarp, yet it still has its loft, and it appears almost new. The zipper goes only half-way down, to save weight, and it's a mummy bag, but I'm 6'3, 165 pounds, and I've always been comfortable in it.

We all enjoy camping out under the stars and pale moon. Am I right or am I right? There's not a human being alive that doesn't adore a good bout with Mother Nature. Just lounging by the campfire, singing a tune and soaking up the peace and quiet. Alright, I admit that there may be a few folks that don't enjoy the outdoors. As for the rest of us, we need that relaxing break from the real world chaos and stress. And with the right outdoor camping equipment, a trip up into the wilderness can be an utter blast. Everyone get your tents, sleeping bags, and flashlights ready; we're headed outdoors.

Less than a month ago I was camping in a nearby woods with my daughter. She was the only one of my family members I could get to go with me. Fortunately she loved the experience. We're lucky to have a friend that owns a large portion of land, because he lets us camp on it whenever we please. Now, you may be wondering why we ventured out into the bush during the winter season.

The best camping tip you can get is to abide by the Boy Scout motto and “be prepared.” There are all sorts of things that can happen on a camping trip so expect the unexpected. Make lists of items that you should bring and pack all the essential equipment. Take into consideration the area where you will be, any rules for the camping site, weather conditions, safety and fun.

The Campsite

Make sure you have the proper equipment for camping. Know what sleeping arrangements are and where you will be cooking. If you are using a camper or RV, much of this will be supplied in your facilities but you will need to know any rules for the particular campsite. If you are sleeping outdoors, make sure you have tents and sleeping bags as well as warm clothing. Bring waterproof matches for campfires and cooking. Set up tents according to instruction. Always leave your campsite the way you found it. The best rule of thumb is to make sure it looks like you were never there.
